The Lord our God is a lover of the works of His hand, most important man, whom He had made in His own image and likeness. In His infinite love, He gave man a workable manual that defines His relationship with him. This forms the basis of their relationship, after all, “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” -Amos 3:3.
The Scriptures are the basis of every relationship between God and man. As the Creator of Heaven and Earth, He is the author of the Holy Scriptures that form the best constitution with which the whole universe is ruled.
The Scriptures have been given, thanks to the Lord. The question now is “How do we, mankind, handle it?” There are three things we must do with it:
Learn the Scriptures
We need to be familiar with this document that reveals the heart of God to mankind. The closer we are to it, the better we shall be. That is the reason He instructed Joshua thus, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.” -Joshua 1:8.
This is a clear instruction to Joshua, the leader of God’s People, in those days. If it benefited him, it will benefit us today. We must familiarize ourselves with the Book of the Law, learn it! Meditate in it day and night. It must be taken very seriously. Learning anything takes HARD WORK; so, it is with the Scriptures. God’s mouthpiece, Moses said to the people of God in those days, “Hear, Ó Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today that you may learn them…” -Deuteronomy 5:1.
So, it is mandatory to learn the Scriptures. That is one of the reasons why “You shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates” -Deuteronomy 6:9. This will afford everyone who does this to saturate his heart with the Book of the Law. Learn the Scriptures.
Keep the Scriptures in Your Heart
It means that you must fill your heart with the Scriptures. Meditating on it will retain it in your heart. You must keep it in your heart and in mind. Your heart and mind must be a good land that can retain the Word of God. Therein, the law of multiplication must reign supreme. It must yield thirties, sixties, and hundreds – increasing fruitfulness. Retain it in your heart so that the devil will not take them away from you. Keeping it will aid you in putting it into action, always.
Live the Scriptures
Act on the contents of your heart. The Scriptures must manifest in your deeds; do you know that it does not end in keeping the Scriptures? Apostle James admonishes us all, “But be of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourself.” -James 1:22.
This simply means that anyone who only hears and stores the Scriptures deceives himself or herself. Acting on what you have learned and kept yields the best results. It will make your standing to be upright before the King of kings anytime. As He instructed Joshua, and every one of us, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it.” -Joshua 1:8.
So, the ultimate purpose of meditating in the Scriptures day and night is to “observe to do according to all that is written in it”. Doing is the final goal of learning and keeping the Scriptures. Anything less is wasteful.
What are the benefits of learning, keeping, and doing the Scriptures? The benefits are spelled out when the Lord was instructing Joshua, and all of us thus, “For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” -Joshua 1:8 (latter part).
The question now is “Do you want to prosper and have good success in life?” If your answer is “Yes!” Then you have a ready-made platform to attain it, if you so desire. The simple way to achieve this is to learn, keep and act according to the Book of the Law of God. It is all-encompassing and all-embracing. You will have no regrets if your deeds match the Holy Scriptures.
Therefore, go and take these three steps with the Scriptures and have a prosperous and successful life.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus.
