Wisdom in Correction

Life cannot be divorced from wisdom. The book of Proverbs calls it, “the principal thing”. (Proverbs 4:7). Wisdom has multiple benefits. The lack of its application has brought much destruction to humanity.

A relationship needs to be maintained by wisdom, otherwise, it will crumble like a house of cards. Any little thing can obstruct a smooth relationship or put an end to it. Wisdom is needed to be successful in life!

Do you know that a home builder is expected to apply wisdom? This is contained in the book of Proverbs Chapter fourteen in verse one. It concludes that a foolish woman destroys her home with her hands.

Many times, for a woman to tell her husband that he is wrong will wound the man’s ego, but this can be done with wisdom and the man will be happy at the end. This was the case with the family of Manoah’s, the parents of Samson, by the time the good news of a forthcoming son was broken to them. They have had no children for some years. Both encountered an Angel of God who brought the good news. They chose to entertain Him, but he said he would not eat anything, but they could bring their sacrifice for the Lord, which they did.

The sacrifice was accepted as the Angel touched the sacrifice with the edge of his staff and it caught fire. The Angel used the flame as a ladder to go to heaven as the couples kept watching. Both later fell on their faces in fear.

The husband exclaimed, “We shall surely die because we have seen God.” Judges 13:22.

This was a very wrong conclusion. Anyone can draw such unsavory conclusions in fear. It can be done in a state of confusion. He needs to be corrected. Death is not part of the good news brought by the man of God, the Angel. Who will do this? It was only the wife who was a couple witness of the scenario, who could do so.

The wise woman corrected her husband with wisdom. She responded, “If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have showed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.” Judges 13:23.

This woman did not employ nagging as part of the correction as some women would do. She humbly called the attention of the man to the truth of the matter. Death was not part of the package from God! The husband did not disagree with her. This matter did not degenerate into a hot argument which may have ended in a serious feud. The wife did not see the occasion as an opportunity to prove her better spirituality than the man’s. This is how effective wisdom is wherever and whenever it is employed.

Beloved reader, do you have a correction to make? Do so with wisdom. Don’t give the impression that you know it all or prove that you are better than the other person. Present your correction humbly with wisdom. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord. Shalom!
